Kenco and Partners Win Alliance Award for Supply Chain Operations in Georgia

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.—January 21, 2014 (James Street Media Services)—Kenco, a leading provider of integrated logistics solutions, real estate services, and material handling equipment, is among the winners of the 2013 Alliance Awards sponsored by SMC³ and World Trade 100 magazine.

In a ceremony today in Atlanta, Kenco was recognized in the Warehousing category for its partnership in Savannah, Georgia with Haier America, Georgia Ports Authority, and the Development Authority of Bryan County to create a new import gateway and regional distribution center for Haier.

“Kenco is proud to play a key role in this winning partnership,” said David Caines, president of Kenco Logistic Services. “Our suite of integrated logistics services plays an important role at the new distribution center for Haier. We assist in coordinating containerized shipments starting with their arrival at the Port of Savannah through to delivery at retail locations throughout the Southeast.”

The Alliance Awards recognize performance excellence resulting from the close cooperation and collaboration of supply chain partners. Awarded in five distinct categories, the judges look at more than the outcome of the partnerships. They also examine the role each of the partners played in solving a supply chain problem, or driving change and continuous improvement in a supply chain.

The creation of the alliance in Savannah came from Haier’s need for new logistics services in the southeastern United States. Haier is a high-volume distributor of appliances and consumer electronics, and wanted a complete international import supply chain based in the Southeast—including a port located within one-day transit time of its regional customer base and a large regional distribution center.

Kenco signed on as Haier’s third-party logistics partner, and worked with the Georgia Ports Authority and the Development Authority of Bryan County to have the port facilities lined up and the distribution center open in just four months. A Kenco project manager worked one-on-one with Haier to ensure a smooth transition, and Kenco’s own warehouse management system was implemented. In addition to the Savannah operation, Kenco also provided turnkey solutions for Haier in Monroe, NJ and Fontana, Calif.

With the new facilities now in place, Haier anticipates sending up to 2,000 container shipments through the Port of Savannah annually.

“Working together, the partners have been able to reduce transportation costs and increase on-time delivery while supporting Haier’s planned growth,” said Caines. “It has been a very successful alliance for all, and especially for Haier’s customers.”
