CARY, NC, September 21, 2010 (James Street Media Services)—Railinc today announced that its RailSight™ CLM (Car Location Message) engine for real-time track and trace of rail freight now offers secure, on-demand tracing through its web tool, RailSight Online. The expanded integration options in this latest release give rail equipment owners, shippers, third-party logistics companies (3PLs) and transportation management software (TMS) providers improved ability to manage their critical rail equipment and shipment data.

Details of the RailSight application, including features, functions and technical requirements, are available on the product website at www.railinc.com/railsightinfo.

New Secure, On-Demand Tracing Improves Customer Service Response Times

RailSight customers can now receive real-time rail equipment and shipment location data through the service’s web tool, RailSight Online. With the secure, on-demand tracing feature, customers can request the latest movement event data for up to 25 railcars per trace. Security features included with the upgrade ensure only those individuals included on the bill of lading will be able to request and receive location data. The fee-based service provides RailSight customers with a real-time view into their critical shipment and equipment data. The result is that rail equipment owners, shippers, third-party logistics companies (3PLs) and transportation management software (TMS) providers are able to respond more quickly to customer requests.

“A top priority for our customers is managing fleet movement, and you need up-to-the-minute data visibility to do that,” said Chuck Hieronymi, Railinc director of product marketing. “Secure, on-demand tracing gives managers immediate access to real-time location information that is critical for accurate and timely customer communications.”

RailSight Expands Integration with Railinc Umler™ System and Customer Data

This RailSight release expands the automatic fleet configuration options available with the Railinc Umler system. RailSight customers can now manage their fleets by equipment mark in the Umler system. Umler fleet changes will flow automatically into the RailSight system and update the location data feed. RailSight also now allows customers to append custom reference information to equipment in their fleets for seamless integration with in-house data. The new integration options reduce the time RailSight customers must spend managing critical business information.

The RailSight CLM track and trace engine is the most comprehensive, real-time, single-source, rail shipment and equipment management data product in the industry. The system delivers more than 7.5 million rail events each day from more than 530 Class I, II and III railroads and shops across the United States, Canada and Mexico. Over the last 10 years, RailSight has delivered fully-integrated railcar location message data for the leading TMS applications used in the rail logistics industry. The Railinc Umler system, redesigned in 2009, is the rail industry’s official registry for rail equipment information, established more than 40 years ago.
